Liebe KollegInnen,

Als Reaktion auf jüngst berichtete gewaltsame Aggression gegen zwei SozialarbeiterInnen der Richmond Foundation, organisierte der maltesische Verband der SozialarbeiterInnen (MASW) einen Schweigemarsch, um Solidarität mit den KollegInnen zu zeigen und um gleichzeitig Aufmerksamkeit dafür zu erzeugen, dass Gewalt gegen SozialarbeiterInnen und andere helfende Professionen nicht toleriert wird.

Zu diesem Zweck hielt MASW in der Nähe des Café Cordina, in der Republik-Strasse, am Montag 3.Juni 2013 um 17:30 eine Demonstration ab. Die Ministerin für Familien und Soziale Solidarität (Hon. Dr. Marie Louise Coleiro Preca) und der Schattenminister (Hon. Dr. Chris Said) wurden von dieser Veranstaltung informiert und waren anwesend, um die Bedenken der SozialarbeiterInnen anzuhören.

Ein Anzahl von SozialarbeiterInnen nahm an der Demonstration teil, vor allem da dies ein kritischer Punkt für SozialarbeiterInnen und andere helfende Berufe ist.

MASW übergab auch einen formellen Bericht zusammen mit Empfehlungen des Verbandes an die Ministerin und den stv. Minister für Familien und Soziale Solidarität.

IFSW-Europe beglückwünscht MASW und alle SozialarbeiterInnen in Malta zu dieser starken Initiative.

Dear Colleagues,

Following recent alleged violent aggression on two social workers of the Richmond Foundation, the Maltese Association of Social Workers (MASW) organized a silent demonstration in order to show solidarity towards its fellow colleagues whilst simultaneously raising awareness that violence towards social workers and other helping professionals is not tolerated.

For this purpose the MASW held a demonstration near Café Cordina, in Republic Street, on Monday 3rd June 2013 at 17:30. The Minister for the Family and Social Solidarity (Hon. Dr. Marie Louise Coleiro Preca) and the Shadow Minister for the Family and Social Solidarity (Hon. Dr. Chris Said) were informed of the activity and were present to listen to social workers concerns.

A number of Social Work professionals participated in this demonstration, especially since this was a crucial point for social workers and other helping professionals.

The MASW submitted also a formal report along with its recommendations to the Minister and Shadow Minister for the Family and Social Solidarity.

IFSW Europe congratulates the MASW and all social workers from Malta for this powerful initiative.
